Lab Bonding Trip to London

Today the whole lab went on a trip to the Hunterian Museum in London as a gesture to tighten group bonding. All 14 of us took the Virgin train at 9.50 am and reached Houston Station at 11.15 am. Paul could't make it at the very last minute as his son was called for laryngoscopy today. First let me introduce you the members of my lab....

In black shirt is our gorgeous Kate, a year 3 PhD student from Chec Republic, next to her is Petra also from Chec, spending 3 months of attachment in our lab.

The ever caring year 2 PhD, Zumla, a British born Sri Lankan, showing her white teeth off. Next to her is Shikha, a post doc from North India but has been working in UK for many years already. Tengoh kelebek gapo dale beg tu mokcik??

In blue shirt, Naheema our new lab technician, and Zuzanna, year 3 PhD from Chec too. Just happen to be here for a week. Terus kena tangkap pi London trip. She was here with us for 3 months before.

In striped shirt was Jennifer, my office mate and Martina from Germany, our lab leader.

Our experienced post doc, also my teacher Karl and his best friend Gary from IBR.

Mama sitting with Aishah, a British born Pakistani, year 1 PhD.

Our lab entertainer, humourous Shelly with Kai, a consultant physician from China but now a lab technician. Kes macam Papa la ni......

Spent 3 hours at the Hunterian Medical Museum, very amazed with Dr. John Hunter who started collecting medical specimens since the 1800s. Wow this man was full of vision. His collections had contributed a lot to the advancement of medicine. What amazed me the most was the skeleton of a man (couldn't remember his name) with gigantism secondary to Growth Hormone secretion from a pituitary tumour. He was as tall as the ceiling. This man was actually aware that Dr. John Hunter had been wanting his corpse when he died. When the man died, John Hunter eventually succeeded in buying the man's corpse for 130 pounds and displayed the skeleton in his museum.

After 3 hours in the museum, started to feel faint. Come on guys, time for food and shopping. So we walked to Covent Garden Market and spent 2 hours there. Treated myself with a huge pancake with nutella and banana filling, then felt guilty after consuming it thinking of the amount of calories I have swallowed. Emm sekali sekala......

Covent Garden, the atmosphere here made me feel like beeing in Europe rather than in UK

Enjoying the huge nutella banana pancake called cheeky monkey, pas tu guilty...........

After jalan2, then makan lagi at a South Indian Restaurant exactly behind University College London. Paul had recommended this restaurant. The food was delicious indeed. Had rice with prawn masala and jadi DBKL tolong Zuzanna habiskan her King Prawn Briyani yang teramat yummy. Habis diet Mama ari ni..heheh.

Mama's rice with prawn masala.

By 8 pm I was dead exhausted, my feet were aching of 7 hours walk today. Train to Birm was at 8.03 pm, arrived Birm at 9.25 pm. Slept all the way in the train. Sorry girls just cannot open my eyes and join your chatting. Thank you Jia (Kai's wife) for the ride back to Harborne from Birm New Street Train Station.

On arriving home, I was shocked looking at the chaotic kitchen. This is what happen when male spouse took charge. Lunch boxes were scattered everywhere. Piles of dishes stacked in the sink, unwashed. Long deep sigh................what to do....I eventually doze off at 12.30 am after cleaning up. On the next day, went to school feeling so groggy. Now, how I wish I have a house maid.
